Tickets and reservations

Why are visits limited?

For conservation reasons, access is strictly limited to a maximum of 15 people every 20 minutes.

Online advance booking is essential to guarantee your visit.

How can I buy tickets?

Tickets can be purchased online in advance. Ticket availability on site is not guaranteed. No reservations by phone.

Which payment methods are accepted?

Payments by bank card and cash (exact amount only) are accepted.

Can I get a refund or exchange my ticket?

You can contact Visit Brussels for a refund request via , only upon presentation of a valid supporting document.

Is my ticket valid for a specific time slot?

Yes, according to the time slot selected at the time of booking.

Are tickets personal?

Yes, tickets are issued in the visitor’s name.

Do I need to print my ticket?

No, printing is not required. Presenting the QR code received by email is sufficient.

What happens if I arrive late for my time slot?

We will check whether there is sufficient availability in the next time slot to accommodate you.

I did not receive my ticket by email, what should I do?

We will search for your name in our database. Proof of purchase will be required.

Can I change the date or time of my booking?

No, once purchased, tickets cannot be modified or cancelled.

Do you offer group visits?

Yes, guided group visits are available by mandatory reservation, every morning except Tuesdays and Sundays, at 10:00 and 11:30.

A maximum of two groups of 15 people at the same time is allowed.

Does the museum welcome researchers, students or journalists?

The museum has archives available by appointment only.

Is professional filming or photography allowed?

Yes. Please contact for further information.

Do you organise school visits?

Yes. The museum welcomes primary and secondary school groups and considers its educational mission essential.

How can I book a school visit?
Booking is mandatory and must be made well in advance.
Due to the 15-person limit, classes must be divided. For example, a class of 30 students will be divided into two groups.
For French-speaking visits, contact Arkadia () specifying:
  • school level
  • number of pupils
  • preferred dates
Dutch-speaking school visits are not yet available.
What are the rates for school groups?
  • €3 per pupil for primary and secondary schools in Uccle
  • €6 per pupil for primary and secondary schools outside Uccle
Maximum of two free accompanying adults per group.
For students over 18 (universities and colleges), the youth rate of €12 applies.

A visit to the van Buuren Museum & Gardens

How does the visit take place?

Free paper visitor guides are distributed at the entrance. A paid version for children is also available.

There is no audio guide.

In which languages is visitor information available?

Visitor guides are available in French, Dutch, English, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian and Japanese.

Reception language depends on the volunteers present, with French, Dutch and English prioritised.

Is there an explanatory video during the visit?

Yes, a video retracing the life of Alice and David van Buuren is shown during the visit.

What kind of footwear is required inside the house?

Wearing slippers provided by the museum is mandatory to protect floors and carpets.

Is the kitchen accessible to the public?

No. The kitchen was located in the basement and is not accessible.

Can I take photos of the artworks?

Yes, without flash.

Is there a cloakroom?

Yes, a free cloakroom is available.

All bags (including handbags) and backpack baby carriers must be left there to avoid accidental contact with artworks.

Is there a café or restaurant on site?

No. We recommend the café-restaurant of the Leopold Club, a 3-minute walk away.

Eating or drinking inside the museum is strictly forbidden.

Are there toilets on site?

One toilet is available in the building. There are no toilets in the gardens.

How long does the visit last?

45 minutes inside the house. No time limit for the gardens.

What is the size of the gardens and what can be seen?

The gardens cover 1,2 hectares and include six areas open year-round:
the Large Rose Garden, Small Rose Garden, Picturesque Garden, the labyrinth “Song of Songs”, the orchard, and the Secret Garden of the Heart.

Can I visit only the gardens?

Yes, a specific ticket is available for gardens-only visits.

Are the gardens open all year round?

Yes, depending on weather conditions.

Are the gardens accessible in bad weather?

Yes, except in extreme weather conditions. Accessibility is confirmed case by case at reception.

Is the museum heated or air-conditioned?

The museum is heated in winter but has no air conditioning.

Are there benches or seating areas?

There is no seating inside the house. Sitting on furniture that is part of the permanent collection is prohibited.

Families and children

Is the museum suitable for young children?

Yes, under the responsibility of an accompanying adult.

Can children move freely inside the house?

No, children must be supervised by an adult.

Are there visitor tools for children?

Yes, visitor guides specially designed for children are available.

Are there baby changing tables?

No.

Yes, provided the quiet of the place and other visitors are respected.

Are tripods or selfie sticks allowed?

Photography accessories are prohibited in the museum rooms without prior authorisation.

Are umbrellas allowed inside?

No, they must be left at the entrance.

To ensure preservation, touching furniture and artworks is strictly prohibited.

Due to its historic nature, access is unfortunately very difficult.

No, walkers cannot be used inside the museum.

Is the museum accessible with strollers?

No. Strollers and backpack baby carriers are not allowed. A front baby carrier is recommended.

Are animals allowed?

Pets are not allowed in the house or gardens.
