Les Jardins en Poésie avec Les Midis Poésie
28.06.25

On June 28, the gardens of the Van Buuren Museum will become the stage for a unique poetic gathering, in collaboration with Les Midis de la Poésie. Three distinctive voices from the region – Eva Mancuso, Clarisse Michaux, and Charlie Demoulin – will let their words resonate at the heart of this green haven of nature and history.

Inspired by the house and gardens, their texts, created for the occasion, will weave a dialogue between nature, architecture, and poetry. A sensitive and spontaneous experience, where the place becomes living material for the imagination.

This retrospective explores the richness of sculpture from the interwar period, blending avant-garde, neoclassicism, and Art Deco. Influenced by Cubism and Futurism, these works adopt stylized forms and geometric motifs characteristic of the style.

The exhibition highlights the key role of major international exhibitions in spreading this innovative style. Visitors will discover sculptures by Belgian and international artists, illustrating the balance between figuration and modernity. Presented in the Art Deco gardens of the museum, this exhibition offers a unique immersion in the aesthetic of the 1920s.

Through “Un temps très vieux”, Mathias C. Pfund presents an in situ intervention inspired by the world of Erik Satie. This installation blends sculpture, music, and history, in dialogue with the museum’s piano, evoking the subtle connections between Satie and the space. Illustrated objects, fictitious calling cards, and historical reinterpretations add depth to this reflection on memory, time, and transience. An installation to discover within the unique atmosphere of the villa.

A Journey Through Time

A couple
in a Movement
Built in 1928, David van Buuren’s house presents an Amsterdam School exterior and an Art Deco interior by renowned decorators from Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. With original rare furniture, carpets, stained glass, sculptures, and paintings from the 16th through to the 20th centuries, it retains the feel of a private home. The gardens, designed by Jules Buyssens in the 1920s and René Pechère in the 1960s, include the Regular, Picturesque and Rose Gardens, as well as the Labyrinth and the Heart Garden, making it an ideal place for strolling and reflection.
