Anthony Carro

2017

The Van Buuren Museum, in collaboration with Studio Caro, has chosen to exhibit in its gardens one of the great names of English sculpture and the international scene: Anthony Caro (1924-2013).

Modern and contemporary sculpture is a continuation of previous centuries, with one significant difference: it has its independence and no longer fulfils a specific function. Anthony Caro illustrated this tendency in magnificent fashion, seeking to free sculpture from its ties, favouring direct confrontation between the work and the viewer. He saw sculpture as an art that opens onto space.
