The dining room

The Van Buurens opted for white Jerusalem sycamore, punctuated by a Macassar ebony border. The Belgian cabinetmaker Joseph Wynants was commissioned to design the dining room furniture. Above a sideboard incorporating a Labrador marble shelf, a beautiful futuristic-style Jaap Gidding (1887-1955) tapestry depicts the four elements.
All five of the rugs making up the Botanical Gallery were made by French artist Maurice Dufrêne (1876-1955). On the ceiling, between the large exposed joists, are attached three white glass luminaires with stained-glass borders in the style of the Amsterdam School, specially created for the dining room. Finally, there is a series of 6 still lifes painted to order by Gustave van de Woestyne (1881-1947) between 1928 and 1931.
